Day 6
Welcome to Day 6!
Today is right from the seminars I do on positivity. I read a line in the book “Managing Thought” by Mary Lore that if we want a happy life, we need to create happy moments. If we want a healthier body, we need to create healthy body moments. A move loving life? More loving moments. You get the idea.
That’s certainly a simple concept to understand. It got me thinking about how precious each moment is. In reality, it’s all we have – the moment. We can regret the past, feel guilty about something we’ve done but that just releases negative hormones. So learn what you need and leave it be. We can worry about the future but there are those negative emotions again which attract more negativity. Or we can make now be exactly what we want it to be.
We don’t want to be constantly thinking, “Is this what I want? Is this what I should be doing?” because that would be stressful all by itself. But we can decide what we want our overall focus to be so we can string together moments that create the kind of life we want. That thought led me to think of pearls, beautiful objects formed by covering up pain and irritation. Here’s what I got when I googled how pearls are formed:
“In order to protect itself from irritation, the oyster will quickly begin covering the uninvited visitor with layers of nacre (would you believe there’s a YouTube video on how to pronounce this?? How cool is that???) — the mineral substance that fashions the mollusk's shells. Layer upon layer of nacre, also known as mother-of-pearl, coat the grain of sand until the iridescent gem is formed.”
Can’t we do the same with the irritations in our lives? Isn’t it worth it to create beautiful moments? Actually that’s exactly what you’re doing right now as you go through the processes these 30 days. You’re making more pearl-like moments by implementing one of the strategies of the day. More positive thoughts are sticking around as you consciously choose to discard the negative ones.
If your moments really were pearls you’d be creating a beautiful bracelet or necklace. I actually bring pearls and strings to my live seminars and often wear a pearl bracelet to remind myself that this is my life and I want it to be beautiful. At the seminar, I wear a long strand of pearls. In fact, I think I might start wearing that daily as my signature piece like Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City! Positivity Pearls as they will now be known. Oooh I like that idea!
I also bring some black pearls to the seminars which symbolize some of our darker moments which we all have. We can’t be positive all the time. I know people think I am but that’s far from the truth. Like many people, I’ve had my share of sad and dark times. In actuality I began learning all of this to help myself. I don’t want my life to full of the black pearls. Those feel like a choker - choking the joy right out of me. I choose positive. I want a happy life, a loving life, a life that makes a difference. And to do that I must create each moment so that strung together, I get just that.
Why is what you think so important? You know that thoughts lead to feelings. We’ve already talked about how feelings generate the release of hormones into the body. Feelings also determine what action we’re going to take. Hard to get things done if we’re feeling less than our best.
At the seminar yesterday which was for entrepreneurs like me, we shared how hard it is to get motivated to get to work some days when we’re tired, sad, or a string of other feelings. It’s not easy for people with jobs either but they have to show up for work and deal with it. Entrepreneurs often get caught up in their own malaise and have trouble getting things done. That’s why for them it’s especially important to be able to manage their state of mind. We talked about various things that work for entrepreneurs but they work for all of us.
Bottom line is your thoughts lead to your feelings which lead to actions you choose to take which lead to your life! Make it one you want…one pearl, one moment at a time…
P.S. Now you can choose to continue to the next day or wait until tomorrow. Either way, here's a link to the next chapter.
Wishing you a positively wonderful day!
